NEW YORK, NY – April 16, 2013 – Logo-owned website AfterElton, today announced that it will relaunch as TheBacklot.com — a Hollywood-focused entertainment site with a distinct, gay point of view. The updated site will feature expanded red carpet coverage, set visits and breaking entertainment news from Los Angeles as seen through a gay lens. An array of new technological features and more visually appealing layout will complete the overhaul.
“TheBacklot.com will amp up the entertainment coverage that our AfterElton followers have grown to love,” said Charles Runnette, Editorial Director, Logo Digital. “We’re taking our readers to the corner of ‘Hollywood and Gay’ with an emphasis on breaking news in film and television, feature interviews from Hollywood and expanded television and film coverage, all with an ever-present gay sensibility.”
To help facilitate the new entertainment focus, TheBacklot.com is expanding its editorial team to include additional LA-based reporters who will provide first-hand coverage of the Hollywood entertainment beat. Joining the staff are Louis Virtel (viral smash, Verbal Vogueing, star of AfterElton’s popular series, Weeklings and recurring appearances on “Chelsea Handler”) along with Jim Halterman (West Coast Editor for TVFanatic and contributor to AfterElton, FutonCritic and JimHalterman.com).
The website refresh will also include a design overhaul that incorporates responsive design, in-line videos, larger, eye-catching photos and a cleaner, easier to read layout. These upgrades, which put TheBacklot.com on the same system as other Viacom websites, will allow for more nimble content management and sharing of popular site features and improvements across the many brands. Utilizing responsive technology, TheBacklot.com will be easily adaptable to browsers on smartphones, tablets or other smart devices.
